Explore your options

Exploring your options can feel fun, stressful, and painful - all at the same time. At Josie, we believe there are multiple pathways for each individual and that there could be several "perfect" careers. The goal of exploring your options is to go from a broad idea to a clear idea by creating your own concrete Career Vision that provides a clear direction for where you want to take your career.

Before creating your Career Vision, Josie assists you in discovering occupations that fit you based on personality, skillset, and what others with similar backgrounds have done. When beginning to explore careers, it is more important to think less rationally and simply go with the flow looking at career options that excite you.

After finding a few potential careers, it is time to get more practical about the next steps. What can I realistically achieve? How close am I skill-wise to taking on this career? What sacrifices am I willing to make in order to reach my goal? After thinking through the options with these questions in mind, you are closer to defining your next step. There might be things to explore further, doing research online or networking with people in the industry or the role you are looking for. Doing an introduction course on Udemy or Coursera is also a cheap way to start getting under the hood of what a particular job might entail.

Once you have decided on a career path, it is time to craft your Career Vision. The first step is to identify what you want your career to look like. This could be anything from working in a specific industry to having a certain job title. At the same time, with your deeper understanding of your work values and personality, as well as your skill set, you will be able to distill why the career should look this way.

Once you have your what and why, it's time to start thinking about the specifics. What type of company do you want to work for? What role do you want to have within that company? What are the specific skills and traits that you need to have in order to be successful in that role?

Putting all of this together, you end up with a clear vision for your career that provides guidance and motivation as you move forward.

Josie can help you explore the career options that fit you from different perspectives. This will allow you to find out what your next career move should be more quickly and accurately.
